Multiple vehicle collision near the junction of Molesey Road and Rydens Road in Walton, Surrey. Van driver Jason Taylor drove directly into the back of Yvonne Wyeth, catapulting her into the air and inflicting multiple serious injuries which proved fatal within an hour. He then collided with a car and an oncoming tanker, leaving him injured and trapped in his Vauxhall Combo.
Taylor was found to be two and a half times the drink driving limit, and traces of diazepam and cocaine were also found.
Taylor, 35, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance.
He pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink, two counts of driving while disqualified and two of driving while uninsured (for the day of the incident and the previous day).
On 3 March 2016 he was sentenced to ten and a half years’ imprisonment, reduced to seven for his guilty plea, and was banned from driving for nine years.
He had 31 previous convictions for 74 offences. Of these, eight were for drink driving and six were for driving while disqualified, even though he had never held a full driving licence.
